| Originator | Minnesota DNR - Minerals Division/Section of Wildlife |
| Abstract | Public Land Survey line delineations to the section level. Data are derived primarily from Section corner locations captured from paper USGS seven and one-half minute quadrangle maps. |
| Use Tips | This data source can generally be considered accurate to approximately 50 feet. Some areas of less accurate data (as much as 200 feet off) are known to exist in the vicintity of the Mesabi and Vermilion Iron Ranges. These data do not include county lines. Many sections cross county lines. This is generally a robust and proven data set. |

| Currentness Reference | USGS source maps varied widely in publication date. GISMO development/maintenance was during the late 1970s and early 80s. Coverage generation: Spring 1993. Attribute restructuring to ensure conformance with the DNR PLS Coding Standard in April, 1996. |

| Attribute Accuracy | Source table PLS_SECTPY3.DBF: Attribute accuracy of the data are technically unknown, although the data source has been used extensively for the past three years without any known problems. | |||
| Logical Consistency | Data are topolocially correct using ARC/INFO 7.0.3. All polygons are closed and lines intersect where intended. | |||
| Completeness | All PLS sections existing within the state of Minnesota are presented in the database. | |||
| Horizontal Positional Accuracy | Source layer plsctne3: Source accuracies vary greatly. PLS lines and coincident county boundaries range in expected offsets from 50 to 200 feet, with the smaller value being more common. The most significant offsets within this category are in the northeastern portion of the state where the USGS quad sources are most tentative with regards to section corner locations. County boundaries not coincident with PLS lines are typically from 1990 vintage TIGER data with many off-sets in the 100 foot range. The international boundary should be highly accurate as it was taken directly from legislative notes. The Lake Superior North Shore was from National Wetland Inventory and will typically exhibit off-sets of about 60 feet, with generally good depictions of the shore line character. | |||

| Lineage | Attribute Lineage for source table PLS_SECTPY3.DBF: Some attribute table restructuring was performed during the GIS Core Library development effort in March 1996. This entailed bringing the data into compliance with the DNR Public Land Survey Coding Standard (Division of Minerals-1995) | |||
